Search for Odyssey - Ch 1

Zavanis was hard at work in the hanger of the Synth Workshop. She sat on some old scraps of lumber that she crafted into a bench. On its surface, she spread out a schematic in the shape of a huge airship. Simply labeled: Odyssey. Up until recently she had worked primarily on seafaring ships. Something she excelled at. Yet in the past few months, she had stepped into the work of air travel! It was from there she began building her own fleet, currently made up of 3 ships. A small Bronco, The Skyloft. A nicely sized Invisible, The Highwind. And an Enterprise ship, The Cloudstrider.

She had been working on gathering the materials needed to produce her own Odyssey. The ultimate goal was to have full access to a large ship for her voyage to the Diadem. She had planned on staying there for around a month, gathering rare materials for future projects.

While the other, smaller ships,  could in theory make the journey, the storage space on board was far too little. Surprisingly, Zav had filled the shop storage to the brim with every bit of lumber, cloth and scrap metal she needed. Only a few parts remained unaccounted for. Her checklist sat next to the blueprint, it’s edges roughed up and creases all over it. She had carried it all around, marking off every piece from various markets around Eorzea. Miscalculation would cost her time, which she didn’t have.

Zavanis had thankfully tracked down the remaining parts to Ishgard. When she contacted them they happily told her they had some spare parts for repairs on their own hull. For a small price she made a deal to pick them up.

Synth Workshop, having recently been purchased and refurbished was unfortunately understaffed. Most of her new hires were off working on their own projects. She agreed it was best for them to grow into their positions before anything. This pickup job would have to be done herself. She called upon her mammet. It’s oval eyes peered up to her. He was a lovely shade of blue with gold accents and a puff ball on its helm. Zavanis lovingly called him Navy. Navy typically manned the front desk, assisting potential clients and running simple errands. This time however, she instructed him to lock up the shop and make sure the current orders were dealt with before she returned from Ishgard.

She wore a brown coat with a large collar to protect her from the cold winds. Some warm, soft pants and ankle high boots, adding a flat cap and her brown work gloves to finish up the outfit. Having dressed for the trip ahead she wandered over to the control panel. She fired it up and countless colored buttons lit up. Zav pressed in a few here, pulled a switch there then turned to the mechanical mammet. She looked questionably at him. He gave her a reassuring salute. The hyurian woman smiled brightly and walked aboard the Skyloft.

She found herself at the wheel of the tiny ship. She had nearly perfected the designs, as her two other ships started the same. She was prepared to take it on its maiden voyage in some of the strongest and coldest of winds. She instructed Navy to open the hangar doors. This would be her first time travelling to Ishgard.  She had been told to expect chilling winds. This thought made her shudder, she figured herself cold blooded and this wouldn’t be the most pleasant journey.

The mammet gave her a thumbs up when everything was ready. Zav smiled back and adjusted her goggles onto her face and started up the ship propellers. In no time at all, the Skyloft was off into the skies.
