Prompt: Obsession

It was nearing noon, as the sun sat high in the Eorzean sky. It was a bit warmer than normal, as it summer was creeping closer and closer with each passing day. Flipping the switch near the door to her chambers, Zavanis quietly waited for the ceiling fan to kick in. Her head was tilted upwards, with a small smile across her lips. Having woken up in a good mode this morning, she figured it was a great chance to clean her chambers at the workshop.

Some time had passed since her happily little wedding day. She had found herself away from the Workshop for some time and had only recently returned to work fulltime. While her room was always kept in a tidy way, one could tell it had not been occupied for sometime based on the dust on the countertops. Shutting the door as the fan whirred to life, she made her way over to her bed. The sheets were warm as the bright sun outside seeped in through the window blinds. She patted them down, fluffing up the comforter and pillows. Her elbows moved up and down as she did so, knocking over something on her night stand.

Stopping at the sound of a soft thud, she turned her head then bent down to grab at it. The item had slipped under the table itself and her hand grabbed at nothingness a few times before finally making contact. With a swift pull, she retrieved what looked to be a type of Mandragora. One of her five mandragora plushies, the Garlic Jester to be specific. Zav tilted her head as she looked at him.

“Oh now look at that, you’re all dusty too!” she said with a bit of a whimper in her voice. A fond memory came to her. One birthday, many moons ago, this little fellow was wrapped lovingly in tissue paper and put neatly in a box for a young Zavanis to come tearing into. Her love for Mandragora had not faded since that time. She patted his soft body and wiped away the dust from his cute face before turning to the side table again. Her smile widened. Placing the jester beside the Tomato King, she made sure to straighten out each and every plush she had. Even into her adult life, these little plushies reminded her how much a mandragora could make her smile.

She reached into her pany pocket and nabbed her large ring of keys. The important ones, house keys and workshop keys were all in the shape of happy mandragoras. A small chuckle escaped her lips as she recalled the price of her little custom keys. Then a moment later she blushed, remembering her new addition to her collection. The beautiful pendant necklace and box Magnus had given her.

“This is turning into quite the obsession isn’t it” she said flustered as she pinched her cheeks before going back to work.
